Find the sweet spot. Mid-length can be anywhere between the bottom of the knee and the ankle, but the lower the hemline, the more likely the skirt is to look schlumpy. Choose one that falls to the upper half of the calf so you show off the narrowest part of the leg.

Make it a stiff one. The skirt should have some stiffness and structure, which will accentuate your waist. Skirts that hug the body or are tight at the bottom can make you walk like a geisha. And if it's too drapey, it will look sloppy.

Keep it simple. Bright colors and loud prints can be too much when you have a lot of fabric. Solid, neutral shades are best.

Achieve balance. Whatever you wear on top should be unfussy and cut close to the body. And it's key to have a defined waist; unless the top is cropped, make sure you tuck it in.

Get a lift. Strappy sandals will elongate the leg, or, if the fabric is heavy, try chunky heels.

Be graceful. There are also ballet skirts in tulle this season. To pull that off, go with one that is partly sheer, but not too full or promlike.
